Dental Implants

Living day to day with missing teeth can take a toll on your comfort and your general feeling of well-being.

But there’s no reason to let missing teeth compromise your quality of life. Dental implants placed at our Kansas City, MO dental office, allow you to return to eating all the foods you love and give you the confidence to share your smile with others.

A Healthy Long-Term Solution for Missing Teeth

A dental implant offers the ideal solution for replacing missing teeth because it acts as an artificial root that takes over the function of the lost root. The implant itself is a tiny post that’s made of biocompatible titanium, a safe material that has been used for decades for joint replacement.

Replacing the root of a missing tooth is important for maintaining good oral health. When a natural root is lost, the bone in that area of your jaw tends to break down over time. This can lead to problems like crowding, misalignment, and gum disease.

Placing Your Dental Implant

Dr. Matthew Scott oversees all dental implant placement at our Kansas City, MO dental office. Unlike many dental practices that advertise implants, you don’t have to visit a different dentist to have your implant placed. Dr. Scott’s experience allows him to complete all steps of the implant process right here in a comfortable, familiar dental office.

Once we decide together that an implant is the right solution for you, the process takes place in several steps and over several months.

  • The first step is an in-office procedure where he surgically places the artificial titanium root in the jaw. This is the part of the implant that replaces the root of the tooth.
  • After placing the implant, Dr. Scott leaves it to heal for several months. This is a critical step in the process because as your implant heals, it integrates and fuses with the bone and tissue that surrounds it. Over time, it becomes a permanent part of your dental structure.
  • During the healing period, we’ll check in with you periodically to see how the process is going. When the post has integrated fully, Dr. Scott attaches a connector piece to the implant called an abutment. This is the part of the implant that will eventually hold your new custom-molded tooth.
  • The final step is to restore your dental implant with a customized replacement tooth that restores function and enhances your appearance. Before Dr. Scott plans your implant placement, he will talk to you about the type of tooth replacement that will work best for you based on your unique needs. This may be a crown, bridge, or full or partial denture.
